Kansas gave the world Dwight D. Eisenhower and Amelia Earhart — quintessential American heroes. Get a blast of the past in Topeka with a visit to the Brown vs. Board of Education National Historic Site, which celebrates those involved in the 1954 Supreme Court decision that deemed segregated schools unconstitutional; and the Ward Meade Park, which features an early 1900s town with a Victorian mansion, one-room schoolhouse and log cabins. Topeka is also known for its world-class motor sports racing site, Heartland Park Topeka, with its record-breaking quarter-mile drag strip.

To get a feel of the early pioneer days, visit the recreated village at the Old Cowtown Museum in Wichita. Other museums in Wichita include: the Museum of Ancient Treasures, which has everything from a baseball signed by Joe DiMaggio to a shrunken head; the Kansas Aviation Museum honoring pioneers in the field, as well as housing model planes; and Exploration Place, which gives kids more insights into aviation and other scientific wonders.

For nature and wildlife, check out Botanica's lovely gardens or head over to the Sedgwick County Zoo, home to over 350 species of animals. For an old west-style adventure, head to Dodge City, the city made famous by the legendary Wyatt Earp and the television series 'Gunsmoke'. At the Boot Hill Museum, Old West buffs can experience Dodge City in the 1870s, complete with a recreated saloon and an authentic cemetery.

Whatever your interests, there are numerous attractions that make The Sunflower State a must see vacation destination!
